Wedding Favours

01 Apr 2016

Wedding favours have become a feature on the to-do lists of couples about to wed, however this tradition throughout history has remained an opportunity to thank guests for their attendance.

The origin lies with the French aristocracy from the 13th century who would present guests with bonbonnières, a jewel encrusted box containing sugared almonds, at parties and weddings. The intention behind the gesture was one of extravagance, as it was believed that sugar had health properties.

A bonbonnière was a symbol of care extended to all guests. Sugared almonds carried additional significance for couples to be, as the bitterness of the almonds and the sweetness of the sugar was thought to symbolise marriage.

These day couples often opt for something more unique, instead of almonds you could be gifted chutneys, potions, wildflower seeds or a lottery ticket.

Treat your guests with these unique favours.
